Overview

The NordSpam Domain Name Blacklist (DBL) is a manually moderated blocklist that lists domains involved in spam, phishing, and other online abuse, with a primary focus on protecting users in Nordic and European countries.

NordSpam is a type of URIBL (URI Blacklist) that focuses specifically on listing domain names found within the body of spam emails, not the sending IP addresses. All domains added to the reputation database are manually moderated to maintain accuracy and prevent false positives.

Impacts

This listing occurs at the domain level (not IP level). The impact of being listed on NordSpam DBL is generally considered low to moderate, as it is not as widely used as some larger, globally-focused blacklists. However, the impact is highly dependent on your audience.

If you send emails to recipients primarily in Nordic or other European countries, being on this blocklist can cause significant email deliverability problems. Mail server administrators using this list may choose to reject your emails or filter them directly to the spam folder.

Mitigation Process

To better understand the potential problems that caused the listing, visit the NordSpam website or use third-party tools like MXToolbox to check your status. Once you have confirmed the listing, you should then:

  1. Find and correct the root cause of the listing (e.g., compromised website, sending unsolicited emails, phishing activity, or other forms of internet abuse).
  2. Prepare your removal request. The request must be sent from an email address at the blacklisted domain (e.g., [email protected]). The request must be in English and in plain text format.
  3. Include a clear explanation of the abuse problem and the corrective actions you have taken to prevent it from happening again. Requests without this explanation are likely to be ignored.

Important: The issue must be resolved prior to contacting support. Being honest and transparent will get you to a solution faster. NordSpam may decline the removal request if they believe the actions taken are not sufficient to prevent future abuse. Listings do not expire automatically, so you must take action to be removed.
